it´s about the love of music and the magic of the loop…

hong kong recordings was set up in 1997 by mario cullmann aka dj coolman and claas gottesleben aka economy claas. our first project was the work with the idiosyncratic crew of doppelkopf. a fantastic trio blessed with a unique style in music, lyrics and performance. production was provided by dj coolman and dougie. it was the heyday of german rap at the time and we had good times working with gangsters like emi, universal and eimsbush, and with friends like mzee, buback and yomama. one day while serving excellent viennese schnitzel with potato salad at his home dj dsl played a tape and that is how we got to know and then signed our first international act, actually we never signed a contract but still we did the album by urbs & cutex from vienna. shortly after dj coolman opted to concentrate on his career as dj with 5 sterne deluxe he left the label and was immediately replaced by a totally unknown quite shady character named harry hong. it sure sounds like a made up name but the guy is real like hulk hogan. the new team decided to leave the german language and the german rap scene behind and released a 12" with an extract of jd walkers logan project (he still earns his money on a trawler of the coast of maine). we worked with thaione davis from chicago, the a.s.i.o. kids from munich and another urbs & cutex longplayer was issued. we continued with our idea of instrumental music that we believe tells more than many rap albums we know. just listen accurately. albums by neeko and grunert tried to prove that point again. we collaborated with 88:komaflash for a 12" (they have a lot to tell, they do it in german) and started an alliance with instant industries, the label of stereo stoecker. a 12" by ire hi-fi featuring vocal giants like lone ranger, u-brown, al campbell and gideon zinger followed and our latest project is again an instrumental voyage. this time it takes you through the amazing universe of block barley. grunerts construction kit will follow in early march and urbs just finished his work on dj urbs presents the diamonds ep for us.
